Enhance Participatory Structures

To ensure sustainability, every development initiative should encourage participation. Our project efforts are geared to achieve more and effective participation of all community actors: small producers, native communities, women and youth groups, merchants, large property owners, local and central authorities, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, etc. In other words, we want to include everyone that forms part of the community social dynamic. The structure and functioning of the Participatory Management Committee plays a very significant role in this.

  • We are meeting with government, NGO, and IFI stakeholders in order to strengthen inter-institutional relationships and assist in leveraging additional funding for the ARC-FMB Project.
  • We promote cooperation among ARC, FMB and other minor project partners in developing partnerships related to environmental land management and conservation policies and practices in the CARJ.
  • We have been providing workshops with the Centre for Intercultural Learning (CIL) Canada in Asuncion and in the CARJ with different institutions, communities and groups to seek their commitment in the structuring and operation of the Participatory Management Committee for the CARJ.

Participatory Management Committee

The Participatory Management Committee is a collective space for participation by different social actors involved in the cultural, political, economic, and social life of the CARJ. The present and the future survival of the Biosphere Reserve fundamentally depends on the active participation of everyone: small producers, native communities, large property owners, local governments, youth and women groups, national authorities, along with the support of the FMB (Moisés Bertoni Foundation), ARC (Alberta Research Council), and various national and international cooperation agencies.
The main objective of the Participatory Management Committee is to promote sustainable development in Bosque Mbaracayú Biosphere Reserve. The FMB technical team and ARC consider its purpose as follows:

  • a) Enhance the landuse plan for the Biosphere Reserve by incorporating efforts with other local actors.
  • b) Encourage social and economic aspects that benefit local communities.
  • c) Actively search for resources and funding for initiatives that promote conservation and sustainable resource use in the Biosphere Reserve.

These objectives and activities will be submitted for consideration to the Participatory Management Committee in its workshops. To ensure success, everyone needs to participate in these workshops who will decide the best organizational structure, functioning, and main activities.
