Adopt a hectare is a campaign aimed to the participation of general public in the efforts in favor of nature conservation and the improvement of the quality of life of the less favored sectors of Paraguayan rural population.
Since 1997, Adopt a hectare has obtained resources that allow to provide continuity to some processes leading to the improvement of quality of life of indigenous and farming communities who, according to the poverty index, are among the poorest sectors of the country with a poverty index of 52,8 % (National Strategy of Poverty and Inequity Reduction; Secretariat of Social Action, Presidency of the Republic, 2002. Asunción, Paraguay).
Adopt a hectare provides support to a considerable portion of the 18,000 people of the population of the Upper Basin of the Jejui River (UBJR), through Environmental Education activities with teachers and children of schools located in the surrounding zones of the Mbaracayú Forest Natural Reserve – conservation nucleus area of the UBJR.
Adopt a hectare collaborates with the area of Rural Development which carries out direct actions with farming and indigenous groups, looking for their food security by providing them technical assistance, crop improvement, organic production and commercialization production, among others.
Adopt a hectare also contributes to the consolidation of educative and health centers, roads, bridges, signaling and maintenance of some infrastructure jobs. It is important to point out that not only infrastructure is being built, but MBF is also training teachers and health promoters.
Adopt a hectare supplies resources to the Protection and Management of the forests and their associated biological wealth through patrolling actions and scientific research performed regular and permanently by a qualified professional team.
