Rural Development

We promote agriculture and conservation activities that contribute towards the sustainability of natural resources, through environmental actions and the improvement of productivity and commercialization, to improve socio-economic conditions of the population.

Rural Development from a land use perspective
The development models that have been implemented in Paraguay, for almost the entire past century, have not provided solutions to the increasing social demands, causing the opposite effect of reducing general and extreme poverty levels in the urban and rural areas, as well as creating larger pressure that also has a toxic effect over natural resources and society.
In an effort to revert this situation, the MBF has incorporated within its structure the “rural development” component, slowly taking on the directives and action plans with respect to the incorporation of sustainability criteria in the land use development plans.
Development component is implemented based on landscape and strategic policies that contribute to the strengthening of the productive apparatus and protects the environmental equilibrium through an approximation based on physical, social, economic, and environmental elements.

Pursued Objectives
To improve socio-economic conditions of population in equilibrium with the environment.

Goal
The MBF is pushing forth the vision of Integral Development based on the sustainable use of natural resources, with a conservation focus as part of its objectives in improving the quality of life of the population –peasant and indigenous communities– living in the area of influence of the Reserves it manages.

Responsibilities
Establish policies and strategies that will guide activities in the rural sector, based on the implementation of a Sustainable Development Plan with a socio-economic focus, wand the participation of various local stakeholders.

1. Work with local communities to determine how the management of the protected area can help satisfy the local needs and vice-versa.

2. To search for local community and governmental support, generating mechanisms that allow their participation and the management of the area; and offering community members the possibility of participating in the decision-making process.

3. Design action plans that will address different aspects of rural training related to livestock and agriculture production such as: agro-forestry, natural forestry management, natural regeneration and forest enrichment, honey production, and production and commercialization of organic products.

4. Developing activities documenting the process, planning activities based on available resources and designing execution plans for tasks to be driven by the work team, as well as control schemes based on the achievement of indicators.

5. Evaluate budget alternatives for the execution of activities, monitoring if the execution of activities, monitoring if the budget is executed as previously established.

6. Identify and propose training guidelines to be addressed by the MBF, for an improved work-team development.

7. Actively participate in the creation of public policy related to the area of action.
