Achievements

2004 - Forestal Yguazú, subsidiary of Shell Forestry, company of world-wide presence, donated to the Moises Bertoni Foundation the Natural Reserve Tapyta, of 4,736 hectares, for its conservation to perpetuity. The Foundation obtained the recognition of this Reserve as a Private Reserve in 2005.

2003 - The MBF obtains the certification from the company SGS under the norm of quality ISO 9000:2001, in recognition to its management of institutional quality. It is the first Paraguayan NGO on the conservation scope in obtaining this world-wide recognized certification.

2002 - The consolidation of a new construction of over 100 m2 for accommodation of scientists in a new Biological Station within the Natural Reserve of the Mbaracayu Forest is obtained.

2002 - The approval of a proposal displayed before the GEF- World Bank for the conservation of the Natural Reserve of the Mbaracayu Forest was obtained.

2001 - The MBF impelled the creation of the National Committee of Wetlands. The organization is still coordinating the Committee until today.

2000 - The Natural Reserve of the Mbaracayu Forest with its 64,407 hectares, plus the area of the High River basin of the Jejuí River, totalizing 300,000 hectares altogether, received the recognition of UNESCO as the First Biosphere Reserve of Paraguay. With the effort and support of Moises Bertoni Foundation, it was managed to fulfill the requirements demanded by UNESCO for this designation: conservation of the biodiversity, sustainable development of the resources in collaboration with local citizens and the integration of the area in an international network of investigation, education and monitoring of environment.

1999 - The MBF jointly organized with the Cytes-Py Office and the University Of Florida (USA) the “IV Congress on Handling of Fauna in the Amazonia and Latin America”, in which over 500 people participated. It was declared of National Interest.

1998 - The installation of the blood processor plant, Lican Paraguay is concluded; located in the city of Asunción; it has an ample positive effect in the environment.

1997 - A donation of Avina Foundation for the development of a plan of industrial conversion is obtained, contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of citizens.

1996 - The Moises Bertoni Foundation receives from the R.E.M. rock music band an important donation with the character of a Trust Fund, for the institutional consolidation.

1995 - The MBF receives, in Washington DC, the “Messenger Award 1995” Prize, for its excellence in tasks that look for the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of natural resources.

1994 - The MBF is recognized as a Member of the Worldwide Union for the Nature (UICN).

1993 - The construction of the administrative head-office and the house of visitors in the Natural Reserve of the Mbaracayu Forest is concluded, constituting an enormous advance in the adjustment of the existing infrastructure in the protected area.

1991 - Resources are obtained and the payment to the Financial International Corporation takes place for the lands that conforms the present area of the Natural Reserve of the Mbaracayu Forest.
